  • One-off complex structures: traditional methods might be more flexible for irregular shapes, but you lose predictability.
  • Tight deadlines: always go with a system that guarantees lead times. Don't gamble.

I can only speak to the context of medium-to-large commercial projects with predictable ordering. If you're a small home builder doing custom villas, the calculus might be different. Your mileage may vary if you have a very skilled carpentry team that can improvise well.

But if you ask me: the cost of uncertainty is almost always higher than the premium for a system. I'd rather spend an extra 10% on a Doka catalogue order and sleep well than save money upfront and pray the site works out. That's not a sales pitch—it's a lesson I learned the hard way after that $22,000 delay in 2022.
